I have a firewire port in my Windows XP computer. I thought firewire was just for Apple Macintosh's? What can I connect to this firewire port? The computer manual says something about connecting it to the TV or something else and controlling it through this port? Please help.

firewire is also know as 1394 and as sony called it, ilink
it's all the same thing
you can hook up external drives ( in a 1394 case or some are made with a 1394 interface instead of an ide one ) or do raw captures from camcorders that have 1394 output

Firewire port is for high speed communication between different kind of Handheld devices with your PC. You can connect your Digital Camera or your mobile phone to the PC using Firewire. Please check the Manual which came with your devices to see whether it has a Firewire port on it.
Nowadays all the Digital devies are having either Firewire or USB port to connect to your PC or your Laptop..

You can connect a digital camcorder to the firewire port. It will allow you to do video editing.
