Rental Rules - One Month Notice?

Here is the problem - 

I have a roommate who tells me she wants to move out in April 1st (and live with her parents) at 12th of March i.e. I was told she would vacate in 18 days.

I just want to know whether I should give her full security back? Am I entitled to do it even if I do not have full month to look for another roommate? She is adamant to move out in April and wants her security back. I am unable to get anyone to live with me till date.

I believe that this is not counted as one month's notice. I am new to New York, so I was wondering if there is any such thing either as "one month's notice".

You would only be required to give her back half of her deposit since it is actually "30 days notice" That is required, they don't say "one month" because not all months equal 30 days.  Since she is vacating at basically half of the 30 days she is not entitled to the full deposit back.

Thirty day notices are required of tenants in any condo venture, except the hire dictates an prolonged term of observe. Your tenant would desire to be paying hire for the complete month of August with a view to get any deposit returned.
