Hey guys, I just want to ask you abaut buying another OS, what do you think shall I buy? XP vs. Vista?

- I'm planning to buy another OS for my computer this coming month because the OS that is installed on my computer is not genuine so I'm only limited on downloading updates and other softwares from Microsoft. But I do not know if I'm going to buy a Windows XP Home Edition or a Windows Vista Home Basic.

- One thing more if in case I have a budget to buy a Windows XP Professional, shall I buy it or shall I buy Windows Vista Home Basic?

Vista pilot with office 07 has been running well at our office BUT unless you want to be the unofficial beta tester let it stay out there 6 month to a year before investing time and money.

the difference in Home and Pro is not just features but networking capabilities. Home will ONLY function in a workgroup while pro will function in a workgroup as well as a domain.

If you are a normal user, I recommend you to stick on Window Xp, It is because
1) It is cheaper
2) Vista needs extra hardware: a) CPU speed > 1.6 GHz, b) memory > 512 M and actually need 1 G
3) Very few programmes can utilise the adventages of vista at the present monent
4) May not downward competible to the exist programs
5) Can upgrade (at reduced cost) to vista later when you actually encounter programs that need vista,
However, if you are an IT professional that need to learn vista to teach others, or make use of vista to produce new hardware/software, then it is different.

XP Pro.

Newly released OS have almost always had major security holes (well at least with 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP)

Personally, I would avoid Vista Home Basic at all costs. (New OS, and Home Edition and on top of it, the word Basic is attached at the end? Ohh...) That is truely freightening...

Also, it will take some time for hardware manufacturers to release Vista drivers for their discontinued products. (Since you said your OS isn't even genuine, I assumed you didn't spend $400 on your graphics card etc.) So go with XP Pro. (it should be much cheaper since Vista has been released.)

Well I was in the Beta program for Vista for the last 6 months of last year. After Vista launched,I went ahead and bought Home Premium. Vista works great with a lot of programs, but there are also a lot of programs ,and devices, that will not play well with Vista. But I am a patient guy,and I'll wait for manufacturers to catch up.But in your case,I would stick with XP.

buy one with a double core cpu, and remember what happened to 2000 with XP, Every new OS has bugs, but at the end you will find yourself installing in your new computer a pirate version of Vista, so my advice is get a really good comp with vista and try linux in the old one to surf the web (and xp for everything unline)
