My daughter got assign to a summer school by the san francisco unified school district. Does anyone know how good those summer schools are? Should i shop for my own? Is there any statistic on the out come of taking a child to summer school in the public school system?

Fron what I understand, summer school is only a reccomendation, they can not force you to put your daughter through it. I would not send my daughter to summer school, it is just going to make them dislike school even more than some kids already do. This is their time to get away from the classroom setting, every child needs that! Good luck!

I do not recommend allowing your 2nd grader to go to summer school? When did school become so hard on kids that we take away their few months of freedom? Why don't you try taking the time and helping her yourself with areas that she is struggling in. You can make it a field trip or fun explorations so she doesn't realize she is being schooled. If you make her go to summer school you will crush her self-esteem and allow the public school system to tell you-the parent- what is best for your child. I am a homeschooling parent of 2, believe me there are many other ways to help her. They will require your time and effort though.
