I need help with the deer in the garden?

What will keep deer out of fa garden?? Any plants you know of that you can plant that will cause them to stay away.
I haven't even planted it yet and there were 3 different sets of tracks out there when I went out there to do some tilling this morning.
I live just inside the city limits so killing them with a rifle would be risky as far as the cops goes.
On the other hand, it would only take one shot per kill and if I just left it there until I knew the cops weren't coming, I could retreave it and clean, cook and eat deer for a while.
But from what I have always heard, you can't eat deer you kill in the summer.
Does anyone know why, or is this an old wifes tail???

Thanks DwightB. After checking the site you gave something dawned on me. I have doberman/lab mix and we let him out to run at night for a while.
I have always noticed he goes around the yard and marks his turf here and there.
Sense looking at that site, I happened to think he alsways has tracks down about a third of the way up the garden and the he comes back up.
Well, that is where the deer tracks stop, so all I need to do is put the lease on him and walk him downw a little further than where he already goes.
I am going to retill the bottom half tommarow so I can keep an eye out for tracks after that.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the help with the roof question. We had the same problem with the deer last year in our apple trees. I was told that human hairs clippings are supposed to be pretty effective. My wife has a good friend that is a barber that she is going to get some clipping from and put in some stocking to keep near the garden and fruit trees. The smell from the hair is supposed to spook them. I wish I could tell you for certain that its works but we should find out this year. If you are on good terms with your barber it should be real cheap to try anyway.

Get Deer Off from your local hardware stores. It smells like peppermint but i guess the deer dont like the taste.

You can eat deer killed anytime.
This is a tough question...no plants will keep deer from your garden. Fencing or netting often works ....but is not attractive.
