from USDA food pyramid, 1 serving of fruit is equal to 1 cup, 1 cup of fruit is equal to how many grams? i need to know it in grams because i need to convert my fruits (in gram) into serving size.

from USDA: In general, 1 cup of fruit or 100% fruit juice, or ½ cup of dried fruit can be considered as 1 cup from the fruit group. The following specific amounts count as 1 cup of fruit (although in some cases equivalents for ½ cup )

1 cup of fruit is equal to how many grams?

The way you calculate a serving size...One of two ways by US weight and measure, and it varies depending on the food product and prep. Or you can do it the old fashioned southern hospitality way of measurement.
How is that? Well that my friend is by the size of the appetite.

I saw a great programme on TV recently which said that your vegetable portion in a meal should be the same size as the outline of your hand. The meat/protein portion should be the size of the palm only and your carbhydrates (pasta, rice etc.) should be half your palm.

I liked this description as it gives a clear proportion which, of course, varies according to the size you should be.

Ideally you should eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day (not including high carbs like potato and yam). 1 portion is 1 apple, 1 orange, 2 clementines, half a grapefruit or a banana.

In the UK, you can now buy cup measures from good cookery shops. They are really useful if you cook a lot and want to take advantage of recipes from the US online. I would recommend getting these as cups measure volume rather than weight so a cup of vegetables would weigh more than 1 cup of flour or oats, for example.

Grams is a weight measurement, so it doesn't really translate to serving size well. This is because heavier fruit will have the same weight in grams as a much lighter fruit, but will have less volume for that weight-- it will be smaller. Generally a serving of fruit is one small piece of fruit, or half of a larger one, like a grapefruit or bananna, and has 60-70 calories.

If you are interensted in grams, you may want to look at a calorie density diet, or apply the principals of one to your current diet. The principal of a calorie-density diet is that since our stomachs respond to bulk, as opposed to just calories, we should choose foods that have less calories for the weight, and then we will be satisfied on less calories, eat less and loose weight.
For example, a bowl of cereal and milk vs. chocolate:
1 1/4 cups rice chex and 1/2 cup skim milk have 160 calories.
7 hershey kisses have almost 180 calories.
Which would fill you up more and hold you for longer?

One more thing: Always be careful when translating ounces to grams. Ounces refers to both weight and volume, and grams only refers to weight, so you have to make sure that the ounce measurement you are dealing with is one of weight also.

Hope this helps!
