Should there be laws against scratchers?

After all you will go to prison for doing dental work without a license, the same for doing medical procedures such as plastic surgery or abortions. Should unlicensed tattoo "artists" (and I use the word artist loosely) be prosecuted? And what do you think the punishment should be?

LMFAO....good one manders. And it should be tattoo on them with a tattoo "gun" made from a handmixer with the needle made from a piece of straighten out coat hanger. Fireplace soot for black ink and melted down my little pony's for colored ink.

Hell yeah! There should definitely be a law against them! As for punishment...I'm not too sure. They spread a majority of the diseases that people end up associating with tattoos, since they can't properly sterilize everything.

An unlicensed tatto artists can pay hefty fines. If they take their career seriously they will have already gotten licensed before starting work in a shop- of being hired in a respectable one !

And i think there should be laws for locking up unlicensed tattoo artists in certain situations (the more seirous ones) otherwise the fines are bad enough!

There are. It's illegal to tattoo someone without a proper license. If these scratchers are turned in they can get jail time for endangering some one else's life. I think they deserve jail time, huge fines and a note on their record for just in case they ever try to get a job as a tattoo artist. Anyone who is willing to put a needle and ink into someones skin without proper training is stupid and should never do anything like that.

I think that since it is a profession in which you are doing a somewhat invasive procedure...scratching should be made illegal and the individuals that are performing tattoos or selling equipment illegally should be punished.

Re: what punishment it should be...hmmm...have to think about that one.

Caveat emptor.

Scratchers are there purely because there is a demand for them. If you try to pass laws you just drive them further underground.

People are so taken in by the 'cult of cheap' that they don't know the value of things such as work done by a PROFESSIONAL artist.

So in order to save themselves a few bucks they go some greasy backstreet merchant and get more than they bargained for.
