high speed ready laptop?

we've been doing some travelling lately and some of the hotels have "high speed access". I have a laptop, about 5 yrs old....how do I know if it's high speed ready? I can get a cable, but don't want that to work when i get there... What can I look for on the machine to know?

Ok, in the network connections it shows a LAN (and i actually use this to hook internet to another computer). So I just need an ethernet cable to hook to the hotel?

I'm assuming you are using Windows on your computer. Click on start, and go to Control Panel (you may have to look under Settings). Once in there, double click on Network Connections. If you see an icon in there that says "Local Area Connection" you should be able to use high speed internet at hotels.

Look on your computer (usually on the back or the sides) for a plug in that looks like a phone cable connector, but wider. You should see 8 metal pins inside the plug on the computer itself. If you see this, this is where the cable will plug in.
