My family member is awaiting trial for capital murder. I am full support of justice. Having no luck at finding information, do not want to risk being called as a character witness. I love her dearly, but have nothing to offer on her behalf.

Wow. What a position to be in.
I would call DeKalb county and ask. If her attorney tries to contact you and ask you to be a witness, I would just tell them that you have nothing to offer. They are not going to call you as a witness if they are not sure that you will help their side.
