what are the things that a 6 year old MUST DO at Disneyland (not disneyworld)?

We are getting a 2 day park hopper pass and I haven't been to Disneyland since before we had kids. Please name all the attractions that you can think of that would appeal to 6 year old boys, (leaving out the things that would appeal to older kids).

Thanks for the advice!!

Hi! Well, my son is 5 and we've gone to Disneylad numerous times in the past year. His top picks are:

Tomorrowland --
Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (you'll love it too, its addictive as you want to get a progressively higher score each time!), Astro Orbitor (cooler version of Dumbo), Nemo submarines, and Autopia (a MUST-- kids love to drive the race cars!)

Fantasyland --
Casey Jr. Circus Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Mr, Toad's Wild Ride, Teacups, Small World (the singing dolls ride; lots to look at, if your boys are more "mature" they may not go for it)

Toontown --
Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, visit Mickey at his house and get a photo!

New Orlean's Square --
Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean (don't miss it-- the new effects with Jack Sparrow, Cpt. Barbosa and Davy Jones really add a lot)

Frontierland --
Explore the sailing ship Columbia (it operates on selected weekends, otherwise its docked and has a lot of "pirate" elements aboard that boys love to mess around with)

Adventureland --
Jungle Cruise, Tarzan's Treehouse, Tiki Room (ditto the comment by Small World-- mature kids may not appreciate!)

The wild rides are iffy for a 6 year old...I imagine your boy(s) are big enough height wise, (40" for Splash Mountain, Space Mountain & Big Thunder Mountain, 35" for Matterhorn, 46" for Indiana Jones) but may not like the thrills. If they are willing, go for it. My son rode Space Mountain when he was 4 but now will not ride it again, so you never know.

Beware, you are going at the busiest time of the year and two days may not be enough time to see all of these attractions. You can check out a virtual map at Disneyland.com with your boy(s) and talk about what you want to do ahead of time to kind of plan it out and get pumped up! Take advantage of the FastPass system so that you can get on more rides without the long wait. The most popular rides have FastPass terminals outside that you insert your park ticket in, to get a FastPass to come back and ride it with a much shorter wait time, during a specific time frame (such as 9:40-10:40am). You can only hold FastPasses for one ride at a time, but as soon as you use it OR the time frame printed on the ticket begins (like with the above example, if it is 9:40 am) then you can get others. Get as MANY as you can. A secret is that you can actually hold passes at the same time, if one is in CA adventure and one is in Disneyland. I have often run across to CA adventure to get some fast passes for Soarin' Over California (best non thrill ride in the park) and then headed back to Disneyland to get others. It takes some effort but the pay off (not waiting forever) is worth it.

Don't forget any special events too, like fireworks, the electrical light parade (at California Adventure)...the specific times for these events on your days of travel will be at Disneyland.com, click on calendar and then input your days to see what is available and also what rides may be closed for refurbishment (probably not too much if anything, in the summer).

Ditto the last person's comments about good attractions at California Adventure. My son loves Soarin' Over California, Flik's fun fair (about 5 kid-sized carnival rides), Monsters Inc, the Muppetvision 3D show, and the Aladdin stage show. He still likes the Playhouse Disney show too, but your boys may be too old for that. My personal recommendation is to skip the Sun Wheel, even in the off season the line is long and the ride not that great. Get on California Screamin' (with or without the boys) if you can...that ride is the best in both parks!!! Get a premium Mickey ice cream bar too...it has the fat content of about 6 meals but it is sooo good. :-)

Have fun!!! Making memories is what it's all about. :-)

In California Adventure: Monsters Inc., Muppet's 3-D, Flicks Fun Fair, Aladdin, Grizzly River Run, Maholland Madness, the recreation trail, Sun Wheel, and Soaring Over California. In Disneyland: anything his heart desires. A few things might be the coasters, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, any of the Disney dark rides, and Star Tours.

I would recommend Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Astro Orbitor, Peter Pan's Flight Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, Mark Twain Riverboat, Mad tea Party, Innoventions, Goofy's Playhouse, Chip 'n Dale Treehouse and many more. Visit the Disneyland website for more rides.

You don't need any advice. It's Disneyland, not brain surgery. You have 2 days, of which you will see everything at least 3 times. You can ride everything in the park. Just go and have fun.
