It's the hood, and the roof. The car is old, an 89 Honda, but runs and looks fine, other than these two areas. Income is limited, so I don't know that I could afford to have the whole car coated, so if I just did the hood and roof, have any idea of cost?

When the clear coat peels, the entire panel has to be sanded, primed, sprayed with base color then clear coated. If this were done to your hood and roof the cost might be as much as $500.The car would then look a little strange with new shiny paint on part of it and older paint on the rest. Some people would get a price from Maaco for a new paint job. They do decent work for low prices if you aren't a fanatic but expect it to look nice.
Depending on the age and condition of your paint, you may be able to just have it "buffed out". That 's what my son is going to do to mine. It's 10 years old with little scratches and some red paint over white, I didn't catch them. No dents but my son says that it can all be buffed out with a sander and the right buffer tool. He was supposed to do my car for Mothers Day but it rained. Still waiting. Try that first. If you are able maybe you could buy a sander and get the right stuff to do it yourself? Then a good wax will keep it nice for a long time. Hope this helps. Garages do do this for you but I have no idea how much and I'm sure the price varies, get 3 estimates pick the lowest, or the one you trust the most. Good Luck.

I would estimate $400-600 would be a fair price for painting 2 doors, provided there is minimal prep work, and there is no installation of the doors needed.
