1. There are four championship levels- Yokozuna, Ozeki, Sekiwake and Kosmusubi (that's in descending order of importance). This level of wrestlers is known as the Sanyaku.
2. The first ever foreign Yokozuna was the now-retired Akebono Taro, who used to compete in K1 and is now a pro wrestler. He had a sumo "match" with the Big Show at Wrestlemania 21, the world's biggest pro wrestling supershow.
3. "Yokozuna" literally translates to "wide rope".
4. According to Japanese tradition, women are never allowed to touch the sumo ring or dohyo.
5. Rikishi (wrestlers) train in stables with one trainer, They spend the day training and the younger ones do chores and serve the older and more experienced rikishi. Stable-mates may not compete against each other unless it is absolutely neccesary to determine the winner of a tournament.
6. There are three different prizes to be won at tournaments- Outstanding Performance (the person who can beat the Yokozuna), Fighting Spirit Award and a technical prowess award.
