my freind calls me and says he wants me to take him to file a police report... tell me if this sounds right?

so a few weeks ago she got mad at him, said she was taking their daughter and leaving (which he should have just let her do) and he spent a week in jail before she dropped assault charges for something that may or may not have been accurately charged
(he requested that a neighbor call the police and when they got there they arrested him for the disturbance)
----
her father owns the place htey lived in -- so when she filed a PFA (which she dropped a week later) this kid was evicted
--------
her father took all of his belongings (i am talking at least 6-8k worth of stuff) and he's "holding them" at his house until this kid gives him some money he's decided the kid owes him
----
today, the girl calls my friend and wants him to watch the baby for the day - he says "i don't think i can do that" - and she says "well you're not going to win this game, and tonight when the garbage guys come, all of your belongings will be outside"

so he called me and wants me to take him to the police station

my concern is this:
we don't know that she'll actually follow through

but from his p.o.v. it doesn't matter because he wants to file a report saying that his belongings were stolen and are sitting in their house

to me this has disaster written all over it... that he should call her back, apologize, take the kid for the day, and then set up a court-appointed schedule of "shared time" so that she can't use the kid against him

the really weird thing is (to me it seems weird at least) that the girl dosn't want to keep the baby, she's always seeming to unload her on my friend

so anyways, would filing a report be worth it (would it make a difference) and then (just personally) do you think this will just make things worse ??

Unless everyone agrees to something mutual, an attorney is definitely needed. This is all family related, and unless some type of lease was signed, the situation just got more complicated. Belongings can not be held for ransom, unless there was some type of prior agreement. This is not going to be resolved here. An attorney should intervene.

Go to legal aid in the county or city where you live, Bring all your papers from the court with you, and tell the lawyer what has happened. there are laws to protect you during the eviction and the landlord may not hold your personal property until you pay. You may need to file a counterlawsuit.Be sure to claim for the entire cost of your property and court fees time off work to attend court and transportation. you may sue your father in the USA. Find out how to do it. if youre poor they can advise you for free, and also, they may represent you for free, if not find out what to do and do it. good luck. The system is not kind to people being evicted.
