What are some replacements to cheese, asides from simply not eating it?

I find myself replacing meat with cheese and sometimes eggs (cage free, organic of course), but am looking for better alternatives. Any ideas?

Cabot brand cheeses are made with vegetarian rennet, not animal rennet-they have a good selection available in most markets. Whole Foods markets have selections of vegetarian cheeses as well. You can also make a super nutritious "mock" cheese sauce with nutritional yeast (not bakers or brewers yeast) available at health food stores-its a great source of all of the B vitamins too.

There are lots of cheese alternative choices. If you're looking for something that looks like cheese and tastes like cheese but isn't cheese try a soy or tofu alternative , there are a few really good non-dairy cheese alternatives at Trader Joe's and the like and they're MUCH lower in fat.

Hope this helps :)

In my experience, most of the soy cheeses aren't that great. The exception is the powdered cheeses, like the mix that comes with Road's End Mac and ChReese and Soymage Parmesan Topping (this stuff is great, you can hardly tell it from the Kraft parmesan).

I assume you want an alternate source of high protein, right? About the best substitue are legumes such as kidney beans, pinto beans, lima beans, chickpeas, garbonzo beans and navy beans. Also, nuts are a good protein source. but they're high in fat. Also, soybeans and other dairy products like milk and cottage cheese.

Cheese is high in fat. Try avocados, nuts, and nut butters.

You can also make your own cheese from nutritional yeast, lemon juice, tahini, nuts, and different spices. Recipes are available online.
