Do billboards encourage you to by or try?
I've tried to figure out the purpose of Billboards. I think the are an eye-sore and ruin the landscape. I've never become interested in a product and am wondering if Billboards have any economic value.

I've never bought something because of a billboard, although that is there purpose. Some townships on Long Island, NY have outlawed them for that very reason, they look like ****.
The only purpose I see for them, is when you've been on the road for hours and need something to do other than look at trees. Read the billboards and all other signs, a little known secret to staying awake on long road trips.
And the best billboard I ever saw was a police officer holding a radar gun and the caption read;
" smile, you're on radar".

Years ago we were travelling cross country and 500 miles away from Wall, South Dakota we started seeing signs for "Wall Drug." We went from being interested to being disgusted to finally stopping in Wall and checking out the damn store. It was a tourist trap, but a fun stop in the middle of nowhere.
Other than that I pretty much ignore billboards unless I'm on Sunset Blvd. or I'm stuck in traffic.

I did see a Billboard that made me laugh though.
Travelling from Cleveland to Columbus OH, I saw a billboard advertising a Bible Outlet Store.

You have to buy it to try it. If people didn't buy the product the companies wouln't be encouraged to continually put up the billboards.
