Why should I not take offense to your faith?
I really would like to know why I must respect someone's faith. Why should I not be offended by someone's faith? Yes it might be intolerant, but most religions have some sort of intolerance sewn into the fabric of their religious beliefs. An example would be that homosexuality is a sin, therefore do not associate with anyone who is homosexual. The examples could continue. I just want to know why I should respect religious beliefs and faiths.
Oh and thanks to whomever reported by benign question.
I guess I should clarify that I am not religious, but would honestly like to know why I should respect someone's faith. We always tip-toe around religious beliefs of others, as to not offend, and to respect them as well. I just find it difficult to respect someone's faith when they are in clear violation of logic and reason (according to me, not everyone). That doesn't mean I wish harm or have ill-intentions towards that person, as someone made a comparison to Osama Bin Laden.
I should clarify further... I am not racist. Race, sex, sexual orientation, height, etc are traits that one is born with. It is not a choice to be male or female (let's not get into sex change operations), just as it is not a choice to be asian or black or latino. I would never discriminate against something like that. But faith is a conscious thing, you choose to have faith. You choose what to wear in the morning, you choose what food you'll eat today. Understand what I mean?
