So, with a female betta - they produce eggs whether they are fertilized or not, right? Do they expell the unfertilized eggs, if so, what do they look like? Should I remove them from the tank? How do you know they have eggs in them? Just curious more than anything. Thanks

You are correct females produce eggs. You should see their egg spot and they will get plumper looking. Most females will reabsorb their eggs. Occasionally they will "drop" their eggs into the tank. It won't harm the tank in anyway. Most fish will gobble them up.

If by chance your female betta lays eggs and they are not fertilized, personally I would leave them. at least for a few days
They are packed with nutrients and she will most likely eat them and restore some of the nutrients that she lost by making them.
If, after a few days they are still there , than by all means scoop them out and toss them.
The male betta are the ones that build the *bubble* nests and generally care for the eggs :)

well how you know if a female is pregnant, you'll notice it getting fat looking. I don't think that the female would drop eggs if theres no male to fertilize it. I'm not positive. The eggs however look just like bubbles that float on the waters surface. you know how Betta's blow bubble nests right?

That is a good question. I have had female bettas, and have never seen anything egg-like in the tank. You can tell when they are full of eggs when they plump up (although that could always be constipation lol).
