What do you do to keep your kids room clean?
I tell mine if they want to keep their stuff then it shouldn't be crammed somewhere or in the floor. I go through with a trash bag and we take it to goodwill at the end of the month.

I have also used the big garbage bag when it gets really out of control. Now I use a token system. My older ones can earn $1/day if they do all their jobs ( 4 things) and don't get more than 2 "time outs" and the younger ones get 50 cents. We use fake money and every 2 weeks (just like real life) they turn it in for real money. If they choose not to do the jobs I don't say anything ( well, I do remind them they won't get paid and that I charge for my services but that is it really) and they just don't get paid. If it is still not done at the end of the week, I do the job but they have to pay me! Its a sad day when we go shopping and they can't buy what they want b/c they didn't get paid for their jobs. That alone has been motivation enough

you go thru and take their stuff to goodwill? Great idea as long as you dont go right behind and replace all that you got rid of. When they run out of things to leave lying around the struggle to keep the room clean will be over.

I don't have kids right now, but if I were you, I'd make them live outside on the lawn. Then you don't have to worry about keeping their rooms clean, and you can save yourself a trip to Goodwill by mowing over their junk if they leave it laying around in their new living space.

i dont think that is the best way to do it first of all how old are your kids second the way that i think works the best is to start cleaning the house urself and go into their room and start cleaning most kids depending on the age dont want anyone going through there stuf and moving it around keep doing this untill ur kids learn that to keep the adult out of their room they must do the work themselves

Get open plastic containers/bins and have them use those to put their toys in - if you get a shelving unit (like a Sauder cubes unit at Target) they can slide the bins back into place and off you go.
Make them help you clean up and try to make it a game.
Don't buy them anything new until they keep their rooms clean.
