All of a sudden my computer is operating at a very slow level. My internet is fine, but I notice when I open any folder it takes an extraordinary amount of time...sometimes never opening the folder? I tried Defraging, but it was still going after about 12 hours? Are there any other steps I should take to up the performance? its only about 6 months old. Thanks

i have vista....so my first question is gonna be what is your processor and how much Ram do you have? i have found the more ram the better and of course the faster the processor -the better. I have 4 gigs of ram...and do not have problems....
you probably have alot of adware/spyware. you can get spybot and adaware for free (link below). also you can download ccleaner which will get rid of alot of junk on there that has been accumulated, which is also free.
adaware 2007 is the latest version but it is still not fully compatible with Vista just yet. the last time i tried it, it froze and read that that is a bug. they're supposed to get out all the bugs really soon, i believe within the next month.
also, if your system has the bare minimum system requirements, that might be a bigger issue than adware/spyware. 512 RAM is the absolute min but is not recommended. 1 GB is highly recommended as a min.
