first, u need three ethernet port.(if u using broadband).if not, just 2 will do.
hook up computer A with 2 ethernet port.
computer B, only 1 ethernet port.
get one cross cat cable, connect the computers with it.
the other one (com A) just a straight cat cable to your modem.

then run the connection wizard for com A. select all computers connect to the internet thru this computer.

then go to com B,and run the wizard,
this time, select this com connect thru a gateway from another computer.

there u have it..

either way, just get a router and forget all the above.

Modems do not have AUTO connection
(2)need a hub and LAN cable for connection
Yes, a hub or a switch to connect computers together. This hub or switch is often part of the Router.

Does not know what he is talking about. He is confusing a Modem with a Router. (There are, however, Modem/Router combination units.

Yes, lots more

Not sure how 'smart' your smart guy is...

A hub will not do the trick. You need a router. goto local computer store... tell them you want to share one internet connection across your LAN. Follow enclosed directions.

Linksysys and Netgear make good ones. Only thing you need to be aware of is a wireless router will need wireless network interface cards in each PC and a wired router will require standard network cards in each.
