The Intel Core Duo Processor is by far superior to the AMD 64 - it may cost you a bit more but definitely worth the investment as most laptops are obsolete by the time you pull them out of the box.

Core 2 Duo is better for a laptop because it is faster, it runs cooler and will consume less energy (more battery time). AMD processors are comparable, but they are not as fast and they do tend to consume more energy under load.
