Tapioca, you asked the EXACT question several weeks ago, and had three replies (mine included). The question went to vote for best answer, so I am curious if you read the answers that were given to you?? When someone does not choose the best answer, you don't know if they even read them.
When you ask about searching for SURNAMES, I have to also ask you if you have started your research process? Hispanic surnames tend to be extremely common, and if you work from that concept, all that will happen is confusion. For you, it is even more important than usual, to work with specific and identified individuals, with a location if at all possible. If grandma was Maria Villareal, and you ask for help.. you'll get hit with WHICH ONE??? Before that happens, you need to know that yours is Maria Villareal who died in Houston (or wherever) in June 1973. Since you specify border families, you reaaaalllly are going to need details, to determine if the record you need is in Mexico or the US.
