Car mechanic completely ignored me while telling my husband what was wrong with the car.?
People am I being over sensative? I am the bread winner and very successful. I have worked on cars and also know my way around a garage. I purchased a used car and have some very minor problems with it. I took it into the shop, husband (diff last name) went with to give me a ride. The mechanic gave him the keys in front of me and would not give me any eye contact but instead kept talking to my husband about what was wrong with the car. I felt this was rude and said so. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

This will also happen at lumber yards, parts stores and car and motorcycle dealerships. They all assume you know nothing and don't belong there. They will ignore you at the check out area, the male clerks will not answer your questions with out a smart a** reply or you will grow old trying to get any kind of real help. Couple that with being older like I am and forget it. You are better off sending in your 12 year old male nephew with a list of what you need. They will answer his questions no matter how stupid they are and immediately gather up everything he needs. It's been this way since the beginning of time and I don't know how we'll change it. Males just like feeling superior to females.
Hmm... so you won a bread and you also know a lot about cars even though you make your way 'around' garages.
You took the car with minor problems you cant fix (as a person who knows a lot about cars) to the garage while your husband gave you a ride? Once there the mechanic gave your partner the keys??? and told him what was wrong with it.
Well, I think I would not trust your "way around garages" if I was a mechanic LOL
No. I had same done to me when buying my first brand new car. Took then boyfriend with me to have a look at it and Salesman came out and started talking to him about the car. I just stood there and was about to get in my car and drive away when bf said "no point talking to me, she's the one interested". Salesman went all sorts of colours. Good on you for speaking up about this rudeness. Unfortunately until the male of the mechanical species realises that we females have money and brains to know about what is under the hood of our cars, this bastion of male chauvinism will continue.
You may have been rude, but if the mechanic was not showing you any respect then you have every right to say so, My wife makes good money and so do I she is better educated then I am. She has told me before that a man that was talking to us did not acknowledge her, I told the man in front of my wife that we are a married team and all desions come from both of us, so please show my wife the respect that he is due or we will take our business else ware.
As a woman I think that we need to except the fact that their are men out their in the world that think women are not on their same level. They are the dumb ones that do not know how to talk to women. I feel sorry for his wife. As expressing yourself there is nothing wrong with that but your poor husband was more than likely very embarrassed.
