Your mild retardation isn't a factor. The Commercial Crabbers in Florida are a small group of men that have been crabbing for many years and in some cases they hand down these businesses to their sons and other family members. It's a tough life with a lot of competetion for a very low number of crabs. I would be very hard for you to make a living wage as the "new guy on the block" crabbing in Florida. If your heart still wants to Crab for a living consider Virginia, Maryland or Texas. The crab numbers are better and you could probably make it in these states. Good Luck!

If your the middle man, meaning the guy who buys the crabs from the fisherman, then yes. I have a cousin and several friends that commercial crab down in Louisiana, and they just make ends meet , so to speak. I'm sure the blue crab fishing in Florida is not that much better.

Do you mean blue claw crab? We had those in southern NC when I was a child. We caught them in the salt water marsh when the tide was in.
