can 100% apple juice become carbonated?

Bought 100% apple juice in a plastic 96 oz container. Drank some, no problem. A few days later I took the cap off and it was totally carbonated. Smelled like Alcohol too. Poured it out into the sink, and it fizzed like Ginger ale. Can this occur naturally, or did some "house guest" play a sick joke?

Yes, apple juice or apple cider can ferment and become "fizzy". It's sold as hard cider and is actually pretty tasty. My grandfather makes his own hard cider to drink by leaving jugs of apple cider in a cupboard for a while. You don't have to worry about mold because the sugar in the juice converts to alcohol.

apple juice can become alcoholic if left in the right conditions. However, if it was properly refrigerated then it would not have become alcoholic or carbonated. Some one with a strange sense of humor is playing a joke on you.
