your number should be in your sim card.

This depends on what cellular carrier you have service from. There are currently two types of technologies used in the United States, GSM & CDMA.

GSM phones use SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards to store all of the customer information (phone number, contacts, and a few other settings). This card can be put into any unlocked GSM phone and that phone receives the phone number and contacts associated with that SIM.

CDMA phones have all of the above information stored in the handset itself. If you want to swap phones then you need to do two things. First you need to contact the service provider and give them the ESN or MEID (unique identifier for each handset) for the phone you wish to use, they will then supply you with the codes and information needed to program the phone.

These two technologies are not compatible. This means that a GSM phone will not work on a CDMA network and a CDMA network will not work on a GSM network.

The reason I typed all of this out is that you need to make sure you get the correct type of V3. If your provider is a GSM provider (T-Mobile, AT&T) then the V3 is the correct phone for you and transferring your number to it is just a matter of putting your SIM into the new phone. If your provider is a CDMA provider (Sprint, Verizon, Metro-PCS) then you need a V3m and you would need the help and approval of your provider to transfer your number over to the phone.

I hope that answers your question.

if you currently have at&t or tmobile and your automatically just switiching your sim to the used moto razr, then your number is in the sim card itself. So once the sim is in the phone, then your phone will morph itself around your number and you will start recieving calls and text from that phone.

Why buy a used one though when you can get one for free? :-)

Also, you'll still have to pay an activation fee with a used phone in order to get it on whatever wireless provider you choose.

I've listed a few free phone offers from authorized resellers in the link below, as well as cash back offers.
