Did/do you have wisdom teeth? And were they pulled?
I am 40 and have had only 1 wisdom tooth form. It has been primarily inactive for the past 10+ years (just at the surface, it is small and is fine left alone). And there is only the possibility of 1 other ever forming, and it is lying dormant.
So, I just read this incredibly interesting article on the evolution of human teeth formation at it led me to wonder if I am a freak or is there more like me?
And secondly, isn't this proof of human evolution that the fundies love to say doesn't exist?
I had one on the right side of my jaw that needed to be extracted when I was age 17. I had no more, and my teeth are strong and pretty. I recall no one your age with wisdom teeth. This is indeed more proof of evolution. I do not want to hear the silly tales such people as my sister will invent about this to try to deny evolution.
Mine came in at 21, and were straight as a board and functional molars.
At 28, I was in a car accident where the airbag deployed into the side of my face and dislocated my jaw and cracked my left upper wisdom tooth. I had it removed, and when I was there the maxofacial surgeon told me I had a huge cavity in the upper right and I'd probably want it removed within a year. 13 months later, I had that one removed. My lowers are fine.
I went to a big chain dentist and they swore up and down I needed the lowers out.... I knew I did not, as they are straight and functional, and my current dentist sometimes says that if I ever get tooth decay there it might be better to pull them than try to fill them, since they don't meet upper molars anymore, but that's purely a cosmetic, aestethic view, not a necessity.
I am 23 years old and only have the bottom two wisdom teeth coming through, but they are both growing in side ways.. None of the top ones have even started coming out. My husband is 42 and just now having some of his wisdom teeth grow.
My wisdom teeth all grew out by the time I was 12, and I didn't know anything about wisdom teeth back then (I still don't) but strangely enough there was no pain and no overcrowding and so they were never removed. I must have a very big mouth.
I have no wisdom teeth. An adult is supposed to have 32 teeth, with the wisdom teeth being included in that figure. I have 28. I'm almost 26, so I doubt they'll "pop in", and I have no room in my mouth for more teeth any way.
