40GB PS3 release?

I own the 60GB PS3 and I've heard a lot of people making a big deal about the 40GB PS3 not being able to play PS1 and PS2 games. Well here is what I think, the majority of people that want to buy a PS3 own a PS1, a PS2 or both, so backwards compatibility really isn't a big deal because they can play their old games on their old Sony consoles.

I mean, at least the 40GB PS3 has WiFi built in. Does anyone else agree with me that it's really not a big deal about backwards compatibility or is it just me?

I've played 2 games on my PS3 since i got it at launch (march (uk));
Tomb raider anniv. (It came out after the PS3 did) and Pro. Evo. soccer (because there's not been a footy game out till this month).
And, if it anything like playing PS1 games on my PS2, I can't see me playing many more.
Before the PS2 included it, most consoles had no backwards compatibility at all!

There are a fair number of people who don't care about backwards compatability, since they still have their old consoles, but there are two things to consider.

#1.  Who wants that many gaming machines cluttered around their entertainment center?  If one machine can do the work of three, why not just take the other two and box them up?

#2.  Consider the lifespan of these other two machines.  If your PS3 isn't BComp, and the other two quit, you have no way of playing your classic games.
