Heating and Air question?

Question

I recently moved and I am having trouble with my pump that clears out the water from the condensation. I have cleaned the hose and it is clear. Looks like I am going to have to replace. I have two questions the first is when the heat is on will I still have the condensation or is that for the air conditioner only. Second is it expensive to buy a new pump and is it hard to replace? Thanks!

Condensate pumps have a float inside them,water raises the float and the pump runs. the nipple on some units is a check valve which could get clogged ,check that also.If you have a humidifier on your heater,the kind with a water panel like Aprilaire you will very likely need your condensate pump.If it is 115 volt plug in it would not be hard to install,under $100.

As far as the condensation for the furnace, that depends on if you have a condensing furnace or not. If the furnace uses pvc pipe for vents, you will have condensation during furnace operation. What you have is a condensate pump.
It is used to carry away condensation from AC units, 
and to carry away condensation from high efficiency furnaces.
If your not sure what is going on, your best bet is to call a HVAC contractor.
The pump will cost anywhere from $75 to $150, plus labor.

Without knowing what kind of unit you have...it's impossible to tell you how much repair will cost or how easy it will be to fix.

Part one of your question.....there should be no condensation with heating...if anything it will dry out the air and anything left in your unit.
