Can someone have your account with yahoo cancelled because of the way you answer a question?

I answered a question in which I expressed that the insight of the person may have been impaired by the use of alcohol...he appeared very defensive...then he wrote me a personal note and called me a ***** and threatened to have my account closed with yahoo...can someone do that...have your account closed just on the basis of what he thinks you stated

That would be a 'yes and no' type of question. The cancelling of a YA account is done as the result of reports of abuse. Sometimes it takes only one or 2, usually more. If this person REALLY had it in for you, they could stalk you and use multiple accounts to keep reporting you and force the closure of your account. You CAN appeal it, but getting reinstated is often VERY difficult, although it HAS been done. The new Community Moderation system supposedly makes this type of 'trollish' reporting less frequent, but it CAN still happen, sorry. You might want to BLOCK the person, and maybe set your Q&A to private for a while.

On the other hand, since THEY threatened YOU, you can also send a copy of that email to y_answrs_team@yahoo.com (missing 'e' is deliberate) and let them know what happened. That might help and it will lay a foundation for future appeals, if you DO end up deleted.

I wasn't going to answer, since Yahzmin, as usual, said it so well. But, I do want to encourage you STRONGLY to submit that e-mail to the YA team as she says. This person harassed you because they didn't like the answer. I don't know how offensive your mail was or was not. But, even assuming you were offensive the proper reaction is NOT to fight fire with fire. That doesn't make YA a nice place at all. If you report them, they won't have as much say if they try to report you - I hope.

Aaaaah Yep. Accounts can be deleted, canceled or suspended on the minorness (is that a word) to the majorness of offensives.

I do not believe someone can do that. I know people can steal others information and change it so that you can not get into it. I had someone do that to me. When in doubt though, write yahoo customer service and ask them.

Nope.

If they threaten you like that, just block them. That way, they can no longer email you or view/answer your questions. They also cannot see your Q&A, so they can't go through & issue violations on all your answers either. Just ignore crap like that .. he's just trying to intimidate you.
