i want music on my verizon samsung a850?

i need to get an mp3 onto my phone so i can use it as a ringtone but i have never found out how to get it onto the phone and be able to use it as a ringtone.

stats:
- it's an mp3 file
-phone is: samsung sch-a850
-service is: verizon wireless
-free texts/pix messages

i have tried the send to phone through pix message method but idk why but my phone won't let me use the sound as a ringtone.. HELP?!?!?
