Is the removal of an ectopic pregnancy the same as an abortion??

Although this happened in Nicaragua, are we facing this if the conservatives manage to pass "no abortions" legislation?? Women are dying because of the government's hard line on "no abortions," even to save the life of the mother. Any comments??

No, it just reflects the anti-woman policy of the Roman Catholic Church, and it's a crime against humanity. It's not even that the doctors think it's an abortion: the RCC is so anti-women that the docs are afraid they will be charged with murder if they treat an ectopic pregnancy. And the Church goes on its out, proud and certifiably insane policy.

No. In the US, there would never be legislation that would consider treating an ectopic pregnancy an abortion. In fact, I can never imagine legislation that dictates- "no abortion for any reason" ever passing in the United States. The article seems to suggest that women are dying because of the doctor's misinterpretation of the new law rather than the law itself. Obviously the Nicaraguan government needs to clarify the treatment of ectopic pregnancies. Although they are somewhat rare, they happen frequently enough that not clarifying the issue could result in many deaths.

first off let me say i dont believe in abortions....for me. and i dont think they should be used as a means of birth control....that being said. i dont think the US will ever have a legislation passed where ALL abortions are made illegal. secondly, if that were the case i dont think they would consider removal of an ectopic an abortion under the legislation. the reason abortions were made legal in the first place in the US was that there were too many young girls getting back alley abortions with coat hangers and dying from it. which is why i dont foresee the law over passing anyway....but i really truely dont foresee our government ever stepping in and saying hey you have to watch your patient die instead of removing the baby to save her life.

No ectopic pregnancy can make it, the baby always dies anyway. The exception being one in the abdomen, but requires the baby to be taken out early and most don't make it either.

One in the fallopian tube is doomed from the start as about half of all of them end naturally, as if in a miscarriage, the others have to be surgically removed.

So this is a moot point for pro-lifers and abortionists alike ... this isn't a baby, it's a mistake.

According to the CDC, back in 1986 only about one in every 145,772 pregnancies resulted in death from ectopic pregnancy (or about 1 in every 2,064,139 people). It's an entirely irrelevant figure, but that extreme condition is used as propaganda to prop up the ill-conceived notion that abortion is necessary for "the health of the mother". In reality, about 98% of the 1 million abortions performed in the United States are done so out of pure convenience.
