Yeah I was just wondering if I can do that with that same CD. Would it make the CD not genuine. Because I heard that the operating system will block you from using the computer.

When you buy the disk, the users agreement says that you will install the application onto ONE computer.
Legally, thats what you are buying.
Im not sure if there is a way that it locks out one or both if you install it twice, but it is definatly in violation of your users agreement, so i dont recommend it and if you do so you run the risk of losing your origional install if they have a way to disable you because two computers are updating under your code.
Im not sure how they do it but i would recommend the cheaper version of windows vista for your alternate computers.

If its just the OEM Vista Operating System and not a recovery disk with other drivers for the laptop you can install it on a desktop that is the same manufacturer as the laptop and it will not ask for a cd key, but if your desktop needs a raid driver and you have no floppy drive to install the driver it will not work , but it will not work on any other manufactures computer, also be sure your desktop is Vista compatible before you try it, and also download any Vista drivers you will need for the desktop and burn them to a disk so you can install them after the operating system is installed

No, you need a key, that come with the CD, this prohibits the same key, which is really what you pay for when you buy vista, being used on more than one computer, thanks to the liscencing agreement with Vista.
If you can't afford another copy, you could always try a version of Linux like Ubuntu.

well if the computers already have an operating system on it (windows 98,2000, etc.) then it will screw up your computer unless you remove windows off you computer and then install the vista disk if there is not a operating system on the computer just install the vista disk. good luck ive heard great things about vista
