I was led to believe it's because Texas was the last die-hard slave state, and most death-row cons are black. A cultural thing.

Because we are a conservative state who is less than tolerant of criminal scumbags.We also lead the nation in the number of incarcerated criminals.
And,we still have laws on the books(that are used) that allow for any citizen to use deadly force to stop the commission of a felony or to stop the flight of someone who has committed a felony.

There is not much I like about Texas but this is the one thing I support. I hate the thought of supporting a criminal with my tax dollars for YEARS until his rights to appeal have been eliminated and he can be executed. I wish more states would follow Texas' example.
