I just started taking yoga, and I really like it, but I cannot sit criss cross, my left hip hurts too much. Will yoga hurt or help? My doctor also said I have some bone loss (I'm 40) and I am wondering if this causes joint pain.

Both my husband and a friend have joints that cause pain and discomfort. The friend recommended "Joint Juice". He said it helped him immediately and that he cannot go a day without it. It sounded ridiculous to me but my husband tried it now he says the same thing.
It's glucosomine & chondroitin in flavored liquid form and comes 24 little cans to a carton at Sam's Club. But they have it everywhere.
I am not a fan of snake oil cures but this sounds like it might be worth trying.
It depends on the type of back pain and your teacher. The type of back pain that comes from weak and/or inflexible muscles and poor posture can greatly improve with yoga, provided that you have a teacher that doesn't push you beyond you limits and let's you take your time to build up your strength and flexibility. Your back (and hips and hamstrings and abs, which all contribute to back problems) will then get much stronger and more flexible and should trouble you less in the future. There are back conditions that aren't as easily 'treated with yoga'. If your pain is in your SI joints, for instance, you can make yoga work for you and help you improve, but you need a knowledgeable teacher who can tell you what muscles to use in what poses so you don't aggravate it. Conditions like spinal stenosis, also: yes, yoga can help you feel better, but you'd better find a teacher who knows what she's doing. In short: you need to know what causes you back pain first and then decide wether to join a regular class or whether to seek out a yoga therapist for instance.

It can cause joint pain because pieces of your bone are wearing away. Hopefully your doctor has you on medication to stop the bone loss. Yoga is a great way to increase your strength, flexibility and overall feeling of well being without placing too much stress on your joints.
Hello, Yoga can be a great friend during diets. I were able to go from a size 12 to a size 8. That's what it looks like when 19 lbs vanishes. I followed the weight loss methods described on this site http://yogafitness.toptips.org I am sure they can help you *** well. check it out Regards
Don't worry what doc says. When you start YOG your body starts repairs. In that process certain nerves feel pain if they are inflamed. It is necessary to continue with bearable pain and reducing with no of days, otherwise increasing pain is a signal to stop YOG.
Within a fortnight you will feel well. Good hunger, peace and freshness of face are its' indications.
Instead of asanas, if they are painful, you can go with meditation and after few months body will give up all impurities then go with asanas.
You should practice YOG under the guidance of a master. If you are practicing of your own by reading books you should do with simple asanas. Understand perfectly and try to experience what is written in the book. At least use good book. I did so but lateron i had to consult good teachers.
