New Athlon X2 4200 processor does not work with any currently manufactured cameras?

Question

I have an Olympus Camedia C series digital camera, which interfaced fine with my old processor.
Recently I had the motherboard upgraded with a new Athlon X2 4200 processor.
Now the computer does not recognize the camera as a peripheral hardware item.
I called Olympus customer support and could not believe my ears! They told me that the 4200 processor won't interface with any Olympus (or any other brand of) digital camera because the camera manufacturer's have not made any cameras that "go with" the Athlon 4200 X2 processor technology, and that it would be 1 to 2 years before the camera manufacturers came out with new cameras that would interface with this new processor.
It seems surreal to me that this could be true.
Can anyone out there verify it? Or dispute it with good reason & recommendation?

Most likely, it's just an issue with the Olympus *drivers* not working with the new motherboard/CPU.  Olympus sees no need to upgrade their own drivers, so they blame the CPU.  How stupid is that?

Instead, get yourself a USB 2.0 card reader and avoid the issue altogether.  Just slip the memory card into the reader.  All the device drivers are already in Windows, so it shouldn't be an issue at all.  Your computer will then see the images via the reader, and you won't need to waste the camera's battery power.

Your processor will have NOTHING to do with your digital camera. It will all be with the Operating System (Windows XP or Vista). Chances are with your new processor and motherboard your drivers aren't going to be corrent. It probably has something to do with your USB drivers.

I am not claiming that it is not possible, but I have over 15 years of computer experience and a computer science degree and I have never ever heard anything like this. I can't believe Olympus wouldn't correct you. 

I'd be willing to bet a significant amount of money that it can't be the processor! A Digital Camera interface is going to work at Operating System level... not hardware level! 

Then again I could be wrong!

i agree. if you cant read your camera thru the cable..try putting the mem card in a reader.
of course we are only hearing what you said you heard. i do not beleive oly told you that.
