How to change a headlight?

The headlight burned out on the driver's side of my '96 Toyota Corolla. Does anyone know how to change it? Does the battery need to be removed? We tried removing a couple of screws to detach the lamp from the car, but that didn't work. It looks like there may be a couple of bolts that require a wrench to remove them - do those need to be taken off? This is quite frustrating! Help!

If you still have your owner's manual, it's definitely in there. (Very funny, a couple weeks ago, we changed the headlight to my boyfriend's -- surprise -- '96 Toyota Corolla, and we used the manual.) Unfortunately, I can't remember all the details, but I'll tell you what I do recall.

The right (passenger side) headlight is very easy to change. You just have to unhook the cable/wire leading to the headlight, twist the bulb to unlock it, pull it out, put the other one in, twist to secure, rehook the cable, and you're set. The left (driver side) one, however, requires you to take out a part -- air filter, perhaps. It's not difficult, just requires more work. If the bolts you're referring to are on the inside of the front of the car, no, you don't have to unscrew them.

You should be able to change the bulb without having to remove the whole headlight unit.
There should be a round rubber seal at the back or plastic cover
Once these are removed you should be able to see the bulb and retaining clip.
And there is no need to disconnect the battery while you do it.

ok, you're able to assume to get an wonderful style of crap for believing that there is headlight fluid.. I had a instructor that joked approximately blinker fluid, and an wonderful style of the youngsters have confidence it too.. Made me chuckle because of fact im into automobiles, yet I knew that there replaced into no such factor in the past i replaced into into automobiles whilst i replaced into like 12. there is not any such factor as headlight fluid, he could have been joking and expected you to acknowledge there is not any such factor, or he could have tried to detect a sucker and genuinely can charge you for "headlight fluid" yet the two way there is not any such factor. If a headlight is going out, replace it, and it quite is counseled to replace the two on the comparable time, because of fact the different one gets uninteresting after a on an analogous time as, yet an wonderful style of folk dont exchange 'em the two so its regardless of you desire. Headlight fluid does not make sense.. there is not any fluid for lights on your place, and that they are the two bulbs.. they artwork the comparable.

Usually the lamps stay intact, and the lights pull inward. Look for the wire from under the hood, and see if there's something you can do to pull whatever the wire hooks up to out of the headlight and into the under the hood area.
