We do eat some things that seem a little out of the mainstream, but are really good. Like buffalo meat--low collesterol, lean, and really better flavor than beef. And you cook it just like beef, only the steaks need to be more rare because it will get tough if it is cooked too long. I had a roast that needed to be cooked because the food in the freezer thawed when our power was off--and it made the best pot roast you could ever eat! And ground buffalo makes the very best chili.
We also eat things like miso soup and tahini, and I have learned to cook vegan for my daughter and her family. Any body else have any non-mainstream foods in their diet?

Being an avid hunter and trapper I've tried just about anything you can name. Some of these were eaten out of necessity others out of curiosity. On my list of "only if starving" are, porcupine, raccoon, beaver, crow, mutton, northern pike, eel, rats and muskrat. Things I've only eaten once or shot one of but would eat again are dog, horse, paddle fish, squab, ostrich, opossum and moose. Things that make it to my plate with regularity are antelope, mule and white tail deer, elk, rattlesnake, squirrel, woodchuck (very good), calf and lamb testicles, emu, buffalo, snapping turtle and various waterfowl and upland game. Two oddities of my own design are bacon bits in my oatmeal cookies and peanut butter on my BLT's. Mealtimes are never boring around my house. RScott
I like to fix some whole grain rice and dump a can of crushed pineapple(naturally sweetened) in it.Don't drain the juice off the pineapple. Then, I add a can of white(whatever you prefer) chicken chunks(drained) unless I have leftover chicken at home.I can eat this hot or cold and it last me for several days like fixing a pot of chili.
I keep a pot of beef stew going for a week or more by adding more beef chunks ,vegetables, salt, and spices. As long as it is boiled every day there is no danger of spoilage.
Well it not unusual to me, but a lot of folks do turn their nose up to it. I pop my pop corn, put salt and lots of butter on it. I then pour it into a cereal bowl and milk just like you would if you were pouring milk on cereal. Then I sit and enjoy it to the hilt. I have ate this for years and I just love it.
