when you run fixmbr does it delete your docs and settings? are they recoverable? thanx.

backup your important files before fixing masterboot record
If an invalid or nonstandard partition table signature is detected, you will be prompted whether you want to continue. If you are not having problems accessing your drives, you should not continue. Writing a new master boot record to your system partition could damage your partition tables and cause your partitions to become inaccessible

fixmbr will only make a change to the master boot record and will not affect data stored ont he disk.
This is assuming there aren't other issues on your machine that could cause you to lose data.
But fixmbr my itself won't delete any data
