HELP! Won a scholarship, now they're making me pay back my aid?

I recently was awarded a scholarship that pays roughly $798 each quarter for my tuition - this scholarship is through the college's foundation and is merit-based.

I was previously awarded $125 a quarter in financial aid (a grant). Now they are saying that if I want my scholarship, I have to give up my financial aid and pay back the financial aid that I already used this year...

Just for clarification - My total tuition bill this quarter is $1002, so the scholarship & financial aid combined do not cover it. Therefore, I do not understand how they can take away my financial aid!

Any help that you can provide in proving me right and the school wrong would be most helpful...

You need to speak with a counselor of the Financial Aid Office of the college that you are attending to understand what is really going on with your financial aid. Scholarships and grants may be merit based, but they all are awarded using specific criteria and guidelines. Only a counselor reviewing your specific situation can provide the answers that you are looking for.
