It all depends on how much you're willing to spend and what your target is.
I LOVE Lacoste red for summer. Its very fresh and I die whenever I smell it on a guy. Armani Code is really good for most weathers im guessing. Gaultier is also really good.
The rule of thumb is for winter, get a warm scent. You can ask your perfume lady at any store. Boss is always a safe bet. For summer, scents are usually enhanced because of the heat (sugary smells will be more sugary etc), so you dont want something too strong or overpowering or warm.
When you do chose a cologne though, I suggest you go and smell at MOST 2 colognes on each try, and smell coffee beans in between. Its a hard choice to make believe me im a fanatic of perfume.- a REALLY safe bet would be swiss army. But try it out and see what you like.
