My husband has pain where wisdom teeth use to be (removed 20 years ago). What could it be from?

He was at the dentist about a month ago for a cleaning and x-rays (everything was fine) Eating or drinking does not cause more pain, it's not sensative to hot or cold. He is getting over a head cold, with cough. Any ideas about what it could be? thanks

Several possibilities. Rarely there can be an extra tooth or if a few cells from the wisdom tooth were left it could have slightly tried to redevelop, leaving a partially grown back tooth that would need to be removed, but he would need a special picture of that area. It could be something more serious such as cancer. Or it could be as simple as TMJ pain from clenching and grinding while he sleeps. He should have it checked just to be safe.

the cold some how could have irritated the bone. they were probably impacted. i dont think this is going to be a problem for a serious lengthh of time
