My dad just found out he has shingles what are the chances my family could get them?

My kids are both vaccined against chicken pox and never have had them my one child is 3 the other is 1. We are more than likely going to wait till it passes anyway put just in case they have already been in contact with him, I'm not sure if they have since he felt ill or after

# Yes, it's contagious. Just like the chicken pox you had as a kid, shingles are contagious. As a result, until the blisters crust over, you need to be extremely careful around infants, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and those who have never had chicken pox. If you are going to be in contact with anyone in these groups, cover your blisters with a bandage and avoid direct contact in order to prevent spreading the virus.
# Protect yourself. Zostavax is a newly approved shingles vaccine for adults 60 and older. Research has shown that it's very effective in preventing the condition, which is great news since shingles inflict an estimated 2 in 10 older adults. In some of these cases, the pain of shingles will last for months or even years after the rash is gone (a phenomenon called postherpetic neuralgia), so a new tool for prevention is very exciting. The Zostavax vaccine is not yet covered by major medical insurance carriers, but I suspect this will soon change.

very good -but the varicella vaccine offers them some protection. call the pediatrician for specific advice.
you can contract shingles. it is a virus that will recur throughout the life of the patient. your husband needs to follow up with his doctor and your family will need to practice better handwashing techniques.

As with chicken pox you should avoid contact until the boils on the skin are healed and fall off. See this great article on shingles on webmd: http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/shingles-topic-overview
