What is the purpose of the Eastern Star?
My understanding is that this group is for women who are daughters or wives of Masons. Is that still true? Can other women be involved? What does the Eastern Star do? Is it mostly a social club?

It is in fact an organization for female relatives of Master Masons - wives, daughters, mothers, widows, sisters, or granddaughters. It's mostly a social club. They have service projects, but most of those go to help elderly Eastern Star members. I finally got tired of it, as it's not remotely the caliber of the Masons, and is largely self-serving. I was a Worthy Matron at age 27, and after I did that, I effectively quit attending meetings because it was just not the sort of group I wanted to be associated with. Maybe some chapters are better than the ones I saw, but I'm not optimistic. Sorry to be so negative, but it wasn't a good experience.
