What's a good dinner theme for "Thursday Theme Night"?
My dad likes to do this thing called "Thursday Theme Night" on Thursdays for dinner. My mom, sister, and I are always having trouble coming up with a good theme. In the past, we've done meals of certain colors, things that start with certain letters, shapes (such as round things or sticks), 50's night, different ethnic foods (Chinese, Italian, etc.), 'family favorites', etc. We've run out of ideas though... (My sister claims to have one for tonight, but then what for next week??) Anybody have a clever one?

As I've been reading the answers (which have been good so far), I thought I should mention that I have a teny-year-old brother who is a really picky eater. My thirteen-year-old sister is rather picky too. We have a hard time choosing meals that have foods everyone will eat, so I guess that adds to it...

how about making it a monthly theme- that way every week it can still be something different but still in that same category- then you're not racking your brain for a theme and a food every week. maybe you can do some kind of family activity to go along with the theme every Thursday- like movie, game, craft, or learning more about your selection together. Ex: Mexican month- make foods every Thursday dinner, then watch Spanglish or some other Mexican type movie, make a pinata...stuff along those lines! sounds like you guys have a lot of family fun!
pick different countries- maybe make a game of throwing a dart at a map to decide what it will be sporting events- tailgating type foods meatball month- make all different meals with meatballs pick a certain ingredient to use in all dishes colors- letters- both good crock pot meals movies- TV shows you can really make any meal you want but just give it a funny name to go along with the theme
You can do an elvis theme night. I just saw a thing on the food network with that in mind... Southern cooking was how they went about it. Fried Chicken, banana pudding with nilla waffers, look up some of Elvis' favorite recipes. I'm sure there is even a whole cook book in honor of him. Have some fun with it. Make everyone wear fake side burns while they eat. It sounds like a fun idea, theme night, I might try it at my house now.
Wow, it sounds like you guys have a lot of creativity. I wouldn't have ever thought up the "shapes" theme.
You might want to try "recipes we got from friends" night or "Only recipes that we've never made before" night. Maybe you could do a "Birthday" night where the theme is birthday party type foods like pizza, chips, and birthday cake & ice cream for dessert.
You could also try "Super Hero" night where you eat spinach (OK, Popeye wasn't a super hero, but he's famous for his spinach) and things that you've seen super heroes eating.
You could also do something that has to do with a flavor: mustard night (mustard chicken with mustard greens, etc.), .garlic night (garlic chicken and garlic mashed potatoes)
you could do
a dumpling dinner (from Chinese dumplings to chicken and dumplings) a picnic dinner harvest dinner (sweet potatoes and squash and all that jazz) Superbowl party thanksgiving in (insert month) Christmas in (insert month) cowboy dinner (make the traditional cowboy meals- chili, barbecue) surf theme (could eat what surfers would eat after coming out of the water- surf and turf sort of thing)
okay, you've thought of different color night, but have you thought of rainbow night? how about everything starting with the letter a or z or x or something? how about everything is made with a special igredient: like pickles or something. also try dogs, cats, (food looks like animals) smileys, clothes, sunshine, night time (you could make the food look like buildings with something yellow to make windows), people (make food look like family member) ANYTHING!
