Why does my computer lock up when I hilight .avi videos?

Everything else works fine. Just videos from my Cannon sure shot. I don't even have to click my mouse. While looking at my directory all I have to do is roll my mouse past that file and the application shuts down (windows explorer). They only way I can copy it to my computer is to take a still picture and highlight it first. Then I can hilight the video and paste to my directory but as soon as I place my pointer on that file it shuts down (sometimes freezes the screen) without ever clicking.

Tried changing the view and it doesn't help.

Other videos work fine. Just the .avi files are giving me trouble. The .avi videos also work fine on my wife's computer and my computer at work.

chances are Windows is scanning the file to create a thumbnail to use as the icon in windows explorer. You can change your view settings to list or detailed and aviod having the video scanned for it to create the thumbnail image.

Give it a shot, can't hurt anything if that's not the issue.
Hope it helps
