"The most preposterous notion that Homo Sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of his creatures, can be swayed by their prayers and becomes petulant if he does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest and least productive industry in all history."
Does this ring as true to anyone else as it does to me?

Cybele - I happen to agree with your further quote as well. A rounded human being should be able to turn his/her hand to anything as the situation requires. Otherwise, what is the point in use having a mind?

While I agree, in part with the quote from Lazarus Long, the fictional character of Heinlein also said ......
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
Specialization is for insects.”
Heinlein used LL's aphorism to expound many of his own opinions and ideas, some were excellent and inspirational..... others were not.
So, in other words, God exists whether you believe in him or not... and doesn't care what you believe... Well, I like that idea.... and if more Christians propagated that idea, the world would be a lot happier with them. After all, my biggest problem with Christianity is that they believe that unless EVERYONE believes what they believe, everyone else is wrong or evil. I think that there's something out there... and I also believe that it doesn't really give a rats *** what you believe, just so long as you try.
When the task was failed and they guessed Lisa and Mario were a couple it would have been the perfect opportunity for him to pop the question. I do believe him, but I feel it would have still been for the publicity ........... the 1st couple in the house, then the 1st proposal. If they'd have had longer, there would have been a few more 1st's for those 2 oddballs !!
Seems about right to me. I never quite understood why God would care. I could understand the importance of his first few creations but really, he's like a factory worker now. He makes and makes and if you really think he cares, you're mad.
I'm atheist though so I guess my opinions on God don't really count!
