How long can a US Citizen visit Australia?
I'm retired, and looking to stay awhile. I don't plan to work, just enjoy Aussie stuff. Anything I need to consider? Do I need a real visa, or can I just stay for three months on my US passport?

Being a US citizen, you're eligible for an Australian ETA Visa, which you can get online in a few minutes for $20, at the link below. You can stay 90 days on that.
Remember to bring insect repellant and sunscreen if you plan on going anywhere from November to March or anywhere but the Southern states, same goes for summer clothes, such as shorts and a singlet.
If you're going to Melbourne, bring warm and cool clothes, the weather changes practically every 30 minutes here.

You will need a visa to enter Australia, so when you apply for this, check with the consulate.
If the visa for example, is for a 30 day stay, ask if this can be extended or if you can purchase a visa that will allow you to stay longer.
Enjoy your trip.

Harley, do keep coming back at us, you had a Juvenile misdemeanor not a criminal offense. If you have doubts, contact the Australian Embassy in Washington DC for clarification, It should only take 24 to 36 hours max.

im not sure if this is true for every country but i think the most you can stay is 90 days, also you may be able to get additional days if you apply for it, i would imagine you could do that at the us embassy there
