Preparing for cable internet installation.?

Comcast will be here Tuesday evening to hook up my cable internet. I live in a small studio apartment. The cable outlet is in one corner of the apartment and that's where I currently have my television stand. My computer is on the other side of the apartment. I measured it out, and I will need about a 30ft cable to be able to run the cord, along the wall, from the cable outlet to my computer.

Will the cable guy have this cord for me or am I expected to have it? He's supposed to make sure that the internet is up and running, so I'm assuming that he either has the cord, or I'm going to have switch my tv (thus taking the cable away from tv) with my computer.

What else do I need to do to prepare for this visit? I've only ever had DSL, not cable for internet.

Thanks.

They actually prefer to install their own cable that way they are responsible for it if it fails. They will install a splitter and branch off for the cable internet. The branch that is used for the internet connection should not be used for anything else.

If you already have your own cable modem, then make sure it is available for the cable person to connect to it. If you are renting one from them, then there is nothing you need to do but make sure that you or someone else is there ot let her/him in.

enjoy!

Hi there.

Your cable guy should have all the wire needed to do the job. I live in the UK and have had my computer in a loft conversion. the in point for my cable was downstairs in my front room. my cable guy ran a wire up to my loft (about 100ft) there was no loss of speed or connection. your cable supplier should have given you a cable modem or router which you will need on the day along with the install disk and your password user name etc. I think most cable modems and routers connect to your computer via Ethernet. so if you haven't got an Ethernet network-card then it might be a good idea to get one. check with your supplier first though. (no need to spend unless you have to)

hope this helps.

He will put the modem next to your computer. Instead of running a Ethernet line 30 ft he should run a cable line to ur computer
