Hi, it is a challenge to find bread that is vegan, but it can be done. First off I'd like to recommend that you make your own bread, it's easier than you might think. Some people like using a bread machine and they come in all different price ranges. PETA has a listing of vegan breads in their I Can't Believe It's Vegan section http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/VeganShoppingQS-BakedGoods.asp?Category=Baked%20Goods Near my home there is an International market that sells bread that happens to be vegan, there is also a small local bakery that sells bread to some of the area grocery stores and they have several kinds that are vegan. In the frozen foods section of your local grocery store where they have products like Amy's, Boca, and Morningstar there are usually frozen vegan breads.
You just have to check the labels before you buy them. Some good stores, other than regular ones, are Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Wild Oats.
I buy whole grain (without honey) or sprouted grain breads. In a regular supermarket they are difficult to come by but I always find one or two. In the local Whole Foods I find a whole lot though.
When I buy French bread I make sure they contain the least amount of ingredients, usually flour, yeast, salt, etc. Many commercial french breads contain L-Cysteine which is not considered vegan so stay away from products with this.
I would ask a bakery for their bread ingredients, if they decline or say they don't have the list, shop somewhere else.
